Scout Radio joined thousands of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at Nottinghamshire Scouts Big Weekend.
An action packed bank holiday camp at Southwell Racecourse, the event offered the opportunity to try a variety of activities, including some you wouldn’t see at your normal scout camp!
Scout Radio ran a radio station all weekend, with lots of groups taking up the opportunity to have their very own mini show live on the radio.
All shows have been uploaded to our website, and you can listen again here.
As the event drew to a close, Scout Radio’s Kayleigh Poacher took the opportunity to ask the County Commissioner Matt Rooney all about the event.
“We’ve tried some pretty crazy things, we’ve done a freefall stunt bag, which has been really popular. We’ve probably had about four or five thousand jumps off of that. We’ve also had Jordan Cox who was on the Great British Bake Off – he’s been coming and doing some artisan camp baking.”
“One of the great things we know about Scouts is that being outdoors is great. It’s cool, it’s good fun and we’ve had great weather so it’s been really nice watching the young people sitting on the grass in groups, just talking and sharing stories about Scouts.”
“Having Scout Radio here has been great because we’ve been listening to Scouts say this is what I want to be in the future, and this is why I think Scouts is important in helping me.”
