The headline in the first year was the development of the strategy – Scouting for All, which has focused on these four areas of growth, inclusion, being shaped by young people and community impact.

After three years of new initiatives and change Matt, sees the need for continued support for those at all level to help reinforce those changes:

We are acutely aware how many initiatives have come from Gilwell Park. I think the next year is about consolidating and embedding some of those changes, [with a] particular focus on the programme to ensure that people are well supported to deliver the programme.

Two big highlights of Matt’s tenure thus far has been both YouShape and A Million Hands:

…the introduction over  the last year of Youth Commissioners and and down the country…that’s given some real momentum and pace in that whole area ensuring that we’re shaped by young people in partnership with adults.

We launched AMillion Hands just before Christmas which has been a key part of our work on ensuring that we are having a positive impact on our communities.

More information on YouShape can be found in our report from the YouShape 2016 weekend.
