Reunion 2017 – Campsites and Activity Centres

Across the site at Gilwell Reunion 2017, there was many exhibitors for Adults to try out activities, and what opportunities are available for the young people to experience. Scout Radio had a quick chat with some of activity centres and the other organisations that have amazing opportunities for young people.

Ferny crofts campsite, based in the New Forest can hold a large event with 31 acres of land and a vast amount of activities, some of which are brand new or newly refurbished.

“2 Lodges on site with up to 32 Beds in each, one of them has been newly refurbished this year”

Ulfljótsvatn Outdoor and Scout Centre is based in Iceland, and it is Iceland’s national centre. They offer many different services and activities such as camping, indoor accommodation, conference spaces.

Corf scout camp is on the Isle of Wight, just outside Yarmouth and they combine 35 different campsites into one overall scout campsite, along with some indoor accommodation. There a large variety of activities that the young people can take part in and maybe even try something new totally unique to the Isle of White.

Not only was there specific campsites at Gilwell Reunion, there was also organisations that could work with scout groups to take their young people away for a amazing adventure. One of these companies is called Jeka Holidays. This is aimed at taking young people away as a large group to places that they may have never been to before.

“We are non-profit making, so any profit goes to a hospital in the philippines or a school in the kongo”

They take groups across Europe on adventure based holidays that young people may never have experienced before, or ever will experience. More information can be found at www.jeka.co.uk.

Alongside Jeka, there is also a company called Travel Places that offers to take scout groups to large international activities such as jamborees and moots but also offer services for smaller groups that run independently.
