Scouts Attend First Pride Parade Since Lockdown

Report by Darren Kyte,

Scout Pride Co-ordinator for Birmingham Pride

This was the first attendance of the Scouts at a pride parade since the lockdown we all experienced.

Since the lockdown measures were eased, as scouts, it was important that as lockdown measures have eased we could have as near normal experience taking part in the parade, which was great for everyone’s mental health and to show we are still here for our young people who maybe struggling with their sexuality. It’s important for them to know that us leaders are here to support them as we slowly all return to face to face scouting.

Just over 30 scouts attended the parade in Birmingham including young people from the scout and explorer sections, their parents and leaders.

Everyone had a fantastic time today and were made to feel safe and comfortable with all the measures put in place Even first time participants can’t wait to return again next year.
