Gilwell Reunion 2013

Gilwell Reunion 2013

Events, National Events, Reunion
The Scout Radio team returned to Gilwell Reunion for the second year, in 2013. Once again, we were broadcasting from the training ground, both to the leaders and adults enjoying the atmosphere of the weekend on site, and those tuning in from home through the web. On Saturday, the broadcast ran from 10-4, while Sunday saw a broadcast from 10-1.30. Campers were also tuning in on their mobiles through the free TuneIn app, spreading the broadcast across the camping areas. With Gilwell Reunion playing host to many interesting visitors and groups from both within and outside of Scouting, we tried to interview as many of the exhibitors as possible - and you can catch the interviews on the website. We also caught up with Wayne Bulpitt and new Chief Exec Matt Hyde after their Q&A session for

Oxford One World 2013

Counties, County Events, Events, Oxford, Oxford One World
One World 2013  was Oxfordshire's International County Camp and Scout Radio went along to join in the fun. The action kicked off on July 5th for two days packed full of many of the activities you'd expect at a week long jamboree. Scout Radio provided the chance for Scouts to produce their own show and entertain their friends on site, picking all their favourite music and they were able to listen back to their show via our website when they returned home. Thank you Oxford One World we had a fabulous time in the sunshine. Congratulations on such an action packed weekend. Scout Radio were in a prime location to run an FM station at this huge jamboree event, we were in the market square in the centre of the action. Around 10,000 people came together for this international camp and it felt as though Scout Radio spoke to most of them over the week. We were live on air from 7am to midnight every day, speaking to organisers, visitors, participants and playing some lively summer tunes to create a fun filled atmosphere. We also had young people on air creating their own shows, picking the tunes and telling us what it is like to be a Scout or Guide at this amazing event. Every night Scout Radio broadcast all the action from the main stage, the talent shows, the band performances and the opening and closing ceremonies, which gave all involved an even bigger audienc

Longleat 2013

Counties, County Events, Events, Wiltshire, WIltshire
Scout Radio join Wiltshire Scouts @ Longleat for a fun filled weekend camp. Scout Radio set up in somewhat stormy weather in what affectionately became known as the ‘Radio Shack’. Scouts were not deterred by howling winds and came to join us to create their own 30 minute radio shows. We had small groups, large groups and some young people brave enough to take to the mic alone, which made for a really diverse range of stories and experiences of the camp. Thankfully Sunday was brighter and given that the Scouts had tired themselves(and their leaders) out at Longleat the day before, Scout Radio was very busy with people wanting to try on site activities. We soon had a queue out of the door, so towards the end of the day we gave as many people as possible a chance to get on the air by taking
London Marathon 2013

London Marathon 2013

Events, Fundraising Events, London Marathon, National Events
Scout Radio's very own Adam Longhurst ran the London Marathon this year and members of the team were there at the start line to set him on his way. Many other Scouts were running on behalf of the Scout Association and despite the streets being packed tight with many thousands of supporters Scout Radio managed to catch up with many of them throughout the horrendous 26 mile course. We spoke to Stuart Malcolm scout leader at 1st Ferndale and runner for The Scout Association before and after the race and he he told us what a fantastic experience he had running the London Marathon, although hastened to add, it might not be one he rushes to repeat! In true Scouting fashion he tells us he will instead be looking for the next challenge.  As well as talking to runners, Scout Radio were lucky en

Scout Radio at Notts BIG Weekend County Camp From Nottingham Showground Scout Radio broadcast live over the showground PA for the weekend providing a lively background to the excitement of all the activities jam packed into this amazing county event. Form the Winner’s Hospitality Suite Scout Radio had a fantastic view of the event, from Guides flying down the zip line, to Scouts coming off the Simulator looking more than a little queasy we had it all covered. Day one saw over 20 groups of young people create their own radio show that was broadcast across the site and online for parents and friends to hear at home. The evening entertainment was a fantastic Lady Gaga tribute act, she got all the Scouts dancing and singing along in no time at all. Scout Radio had the pleasure of interview
