Along with the tricking, treating, pumpkin carving. climbing, 3G swinging, shooting and screaming (in the scare mazes!) going on at Gilwell, the Scout Radio caravan studio has been in broadcasting all weekend, with groups choosing their own songs, telling us about their adventures and learning to present live on the radio. Gilwell Reunion 2018 – Dwayne Fields Keynote

National Events, Reunion
Each year Gilwell Reunion is treated to a keynote speaker. This year was the turn of Scout Ambassador Dwayne Fields to entertain the masses with his story of his first experience of Scouting and how it led him to be a Scout Ambassador. Dwayne, who moved to the UK when he was five, explained how on a chance trip to a Cub Pack where he was only there as he was dropping a friend off changed how he formed relationships I went from a scared, nervous, anxious, conscious kid to, for the very first time since arriving in the UK, being able to express myself... ...For me the biggest and most powerful that that man [Cub Leader] did was that he looked at me and said "why don't you come inside"[to the Cub Pack] Dwayne counts some of those first people he met in Cubs amongst his friends today and...

Gilwell Reunion 2018 will see the first handover of the UK Youth Commissioner role as Hannah passes on the reigns to Ollie Wood. We caught up with Hannah to discuss her time as UK Youth Commissioner. After being appointed as the first ever UK Youth Commissioner Hannah has had many successes, not least building the role up from an idea to national, and international, prominence, however in Hannah’s words There are a number of things that I would say have been huge achievements in the role. We took the concept of a youth commissioner from a UK Youth Commissioner to having nearly 400 across the UK. In 4 years thats a huge amount of people to be mobilised into roles. We’ve made changes to our bylaws to ensure sure that 50% of the people on our national council are young people Hannah als...

The evening was officially opened by Camp Chief Ross Maloney who extended a warm welcome to the 2500+ adults from across the country and around the world before going through his highlights for the weekend and introducing fellow members of Team UK who also welcomed the masses and hoped that everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Scout Radio later caught up with Tim Kidd, UK Chief Commissioner who describes Reunion as the most intense weekend of the year...but its great to meet so many people and to hear so many stories of things they a...
